“Immersed In Sound” by En Bloc

Lovely info graphic of Herbie’s setup circa 1977 from En Bloc Design. The original photo comes from the back sleeve of “Sunlight”, not one of my favorite records… You pretty much can’t go wrong with Herbie until around 1975 though I do have a soft spot for a few tracks off of “Man Child” and “Secrets” which I think were done in 1976. By this time he had gone off the deep end into cheesey fusion but there’s no denying he’s the undisputed master of creating blankets of overdubbed funky keyboard riffs.

Exhibit A: “Hang up Your Hangups” off of “Man Child”. If you have no appetite for cheesey 70s jazz funk, move along, otherwise… the keyboard breakdown sections are pretty amazing.
